Eligibility Criteria
Training Requirements
- Candidates must have completed, or will complete before the exam, a continuous one-year training period starting from the end of the fourth year of their enrollment as advocates, ending on April 30, 2025.
A certificate of training completion from an Advocate-on-Record is mandatory under Regulation 6.
Exam Attempt Limit
- Candidates are allowed a maximum of five attempts to appear for the exam.
- Participation in even one paper of the exam counts as one attempt.
- The December 2021 exam is not counted toward the five-attempt limit, granting eligible candidates an additional chance based on their last exam result.
Additional Restrictions
- Candidates who fail all papers in the exam are not permitted to appear in the next examination.
- Candidates who do not appear for all papers or fail in any paper they attempt will be considered to have failed all papers, including those they did not appear for.
Application Process
Submission Period
- Applications must be submitted between April 15 and April 30, 2025 (5:00 PM deadline) at the AOR Examination Cell, Room No. 307, 3rd Floor, B-Block, Administrative Buildings Complex, Supreme Court of India, New Delhi-110001.
Submission Methods
- In-Person: Submit a physical copy of the application form.
- Online: Email a scanned copy of the application form, along with required documents and fee payment proof, followed by mailing the physical copy.
Required Documents
- Completed application form with a recent passport-sized photograph.
- Self-attested copy of the enrollment certificate.
- Training completion certificate.
- Proof of exam fee payment (₹750).
Exam Fee
- The fee must be paid via bank transfer to the designated account (Uco Bank, Supreme Court Compound, Delhi).
Exam Papers and Syllabus
The examination consists of four papers:
- Paper-I (Drafting): Includes petitions for special leave, statements of cases, decrees, orders, writs, etc.
- Paper-II (Legal Documents): Covers appeals, plaints, written statements, and other legal documents.
- Paper-III (Advocacy and Professional Ethics): Topics include the nature of the legal profession, professional ethics, duties of advocates, and comparative studies of ethics in different countries.
- Paper-IV (Leading Cases): Candidates will be provided with headnotes of leading cases during the exam, which must be returned at the end.

Exam Rules and Important Notes
- Consequences of Absence: Candidates who obtain roll numbers but fail to appear for any paper will be deemed unprepared and may be barred from future exams without further opportunity, unless granted permission by the Exam Board.
- Re-exam Conditions: Under Regulation 11(i) and 11(ii), candidates who fail to meet the aggregate score requirement may choose to reappear in one or all papers.
- Result Announcement: Results for the 2024 AOR Examination were declared on January 23, 2025.
