Bhutan to be the second nation to adopt the Indian origin BHIM-UPI

On July 13, 2021, via a virtual ceremony. the Union Finance Minister and Finance Minister of Bhutan Lyonpo Namgay Tshering adopted and launched BHIM-UPI in Bhutan. With this launch, this nation has become the first country to adopt Indian origin Unified Payment Interface (UPI) standards for its Quick Response (QR) code.

The first nation to adopt BHIM-UPI was Singapore as an acceptance at merchant locations.
