Why India joining HAC is significant?
Rameshwar Prasad Gupta, while showing pleasure in India meeting the member countries of HAC, stated that the resource mobilization will also be the foundation for the implementation of policies and programmes for conserve biodiversity. He continued that India will secure all the comfort to meet the global biodiversity objectives.
Ambassador of France to India while greeting India’s decision of joining HAC, which was launched at the ‘One Planet Summit in Paris in January 2021, stated that on the eve of the occasion of COP 15, India joining HAC is a true game-changer and will help in promoting multilateral efforts.
The French ambassador while saying India is the important player for biodiversity protection told that this alliance intends to develop an international convention to protect at least 30% of the world’s land and ocean by 2030.
What is the High Ambition Coalition?
The High Ambition Coalition (HAC) for Nature and People is an intergovernmental group of 70 nations co-chaired by Costa Rica and France and the United Kingdom as the Ocean co-chair.
Objective-
Championing a global deal for people and nature, HAC has the central goal of preserving at the least 30% of the world’s land and ocean by 2030. The 30×30 target is the global target that aims to stop the accelerating deterioration of the species as well as preserve the vital ecosystems that are the source of economic security.
