Abstract:

Global climate change is currently attracting global attention. Many countries are trying to control this climate change. India’s role in this is huge. This article will highlight India’s leadership in climate initiative activities and its proactive measures, policies, commitments etc. and the major initiatives undertaken by India such as Green Indian Railways, International Solar Alliance, Renewable Energy Based Innovations one by one. This article aims to propagate India’s leadership in global climate initiatives and also it covers the challenges India has faced in such an enormous journey of contribution in Global Climate Initiatives as a Leader and future suggestions to overcome those challenges.

Introduction:

          Although many countries in the world are working with the lifeblood of economic development, at the same time the majority of the countries in the world are working towards sustainable economic development. India’s role as a leader in such a coalition of countries is significant. It is noteworthy that when India acted as the presidency of the G20 countries, many global climate initiative measures were taken, and these measures benefited economic growth and environmental protection together.  ‘‘One Earth One Family One Future’’ Based on this, India implemented many projects during his tenure. Thus, some important projects implemented by India, which is a pioneer in climate initiative measures, can be seen in detail.

Key Contributions:

          India’s leadership ship of the G20 began in December 2022 and lasted until November 30, 2023. The G20 is the premier forum for international economic cooperation launched in 1999. Although initially focused on macroeconomic issues, the focus later expanded to include business, sustainable development, health, agriculture, energy, environment, climate change, and anti-corruption. India’s leadership of the G20 for a year has shown its leadership on climate action to the world by taking the following important steps:

International Solar Alliance:

            The International Solar Alliance (ISA) promotes solar energy encyclopaedia ally, reducing  reactionary energy dependence and climate change. Innovated in 2015, ISA has 99 member countries, 17  spectators, and 7  mates. Its  charge is to  rally $ 1 trillion in solar investments and employ  1,000 GW by 2030. ISA focuses on energy access, security, sustainable development, and climate mitigation. It collaborates with prominent associations, marshalling $ 2 billion in investments, supporting solar deployment in 17 countries, and training  10,000 professionals. ISA aims to expand class, enhance solar deployment, and foster  invention, playing a vital  part in the global transition to a low- carbon frugality.

Mission LiFE:

          India’s leadership in global climate  enterprise shines through Mission LiFE

(Lifestyle for Environment). Launched by PM Narendra Modi in 2022, Mission LiFE promotes sustainable living and mitigates climate change. Completing the International Solar Alliance and Paris Agreement  pretensions, India  –

          India’s climate leadership inspires global cooperation, sustainable  life relinquishment, and innovative  results. By  backing Mission LiFE, India sets an  example for nations to prioritise climate action,  icing a cleaner, greener future.

Indian Green Railways:

          Indian Railroads, one of the world’s largest transportation networks, is  transubstantiation into a sustainable and environmentally responsible  reality. The” Green Indian Railroads” action aims to achieve net- zero carbon emigrations by 2030.

          India’s Net Zero by 2070 goal cements its global climate leadership. PM Narendra Modi’s vision prioritises 50% non-fossil fuel energy and 500 GW renewable energy by 2030. Rail electrification, green transportation, and energy efficiency also feature prominently. As ISA, CCAC, and IORA leader, India drives global climate cooperation and innovation. This commitment inspires emerging economies, ensures sustainable development, and secures a climate-resilient future. India’s ambitious target demonstrates its resolve to mitigate climate change, promoting a cleaner, greener planet. Achieving Net Zero by 2070 will solidify India’s position as a champion of environmental stewardship.

Innovative Climate Solutions:

      India has  surfaced as a leader in innovative climate  results,  using technology and policy interventions to reduce its carbon footmark. One notable action is the National Solar Mission, which aims to emplace 40 GW of rooftop solar power by 2022. This action encourages  homes and  diligence to transition to renewable energy, reducing dependence on fossil energies.   The UJALA (Unnat Jyoti by Affordable LEDs for All) scheme has led to the distribution of over 360 million LED bulbs, performing significant energy savings. Also, the perform, achieve and trade (PAT) scheme promotes energy  effectiveness in  diligence.   India’s ambitious Afforestation Programme aims to cover 20% of its land area with  timbers, absorbing 2.5 billion tons of CO2 annually. Effective  perpetration and scaling up of these  enterprises are  pivotal to achieving India’s climate  pretensions.

Challenges Faced by India:

              India has  surfaced as a  crucial player in global climate  enterprise, demonstrating its commitment to  mollifying climate change and promoting sustainable development. As a leader in climate action, India faces  multitudinous challenges that test its  resoluteness, adaptability, and resourcefulness. We will explore  the multifaceted challenges India encounters as it strives to balance its experimental  bournes  with environmental  liabilities.

          India’s  rapid-fire  profitable growth and industrialization have led to increased energy demands, primarily met through fossil energies. Still, this growth line conflicts with climate  pretensions. India must  attune its development precedents with the need to reduce  hothouse gas emigrations.

Energy Security vs. Renewable Energy Transition: India’s reliance on coal and other fossil energies poses a significant challenge to its climate  intentions. Transitioning to renewable energy sources requires substantial investments and technological advancements.

Industrial Growth vs. Carbon Emigrations : India’s growing  diligence,  similar to sword and cement, are significant contributors to carbon emigrations. enforcing low- carbon technologies and practices is  pivotal to  alleviate these emigrations.

 India requires significant  fiscal  coffers and technological  moxie to support its climate  enterprise.

Marshaling Climate Finance: India needs substantial backing to support its climate  pretensions, including the development of renewable energy  structure and climate- flexible  structure.

 Access to Climate- Friendly Technologies:  India relies on  transnational cooperation to  pierce and develop climate-friendly technologies,  similar as carbon  prisoner and  storehouse.

          India is  largely vulnerable to climate impacts, including extreme rainfall events,  ocean-  position rise, and water  failure.

 Climate-flexible structure: Developing climate- flexible  structure,  similar as  flood tide- resistant construction and climate-smart  husbandry, is essential.

 South- South Cooperation: India plays a  pivotal  part in promoting South- South cooperation,  participating in its  moxie and  guests  with other developing countries.

The nation’s politic engagement has forged strategic  hookups,  using its  profitable influence to promote climate cooperation. The nation has been ranked among the top countries encyclopaedia ally in climate performance, according to the Climate Change Performance Index (CCPI). India’s climate  sweats have also been  conceded by the United Nations.
