Key Facts
This is the first solar plan that was arranged up under the Flexibilisation Scheme. This scheme was announced by the Central Government in 2018.
Regarding the floating solar PV project
- The floating solar project has a different anchoring object.
- It was built over an area of 75 acres of the reservoir.
- This project has the potential of producing electricity from more than 1 lakh solar PV modules.
- 2000MW coal-fired Simhadri Station is the leading power project that executed an open sea profit from the Bay of Bengal which has been operational for more than 20 years.
Significance of the project
This design is important in a way that, it will assist in lighting around 7,000 households. It will also guarantee that at least 46,000 tons of CO2 are withdrawn every year for the entire lifespan of this project. It will save 1,364 million litres of water per annum which would be practised to reach the yearly water demands of 6,700 households.
Other projects by NTPC
NTPC has also proposed to set up a hydrogen-based micro-grid system at Simhadri on pilot support. NTPC has also graced the first energy company of India to maintain its energy compact objects under the UN High-level Dialogue on Energy (HLDE).
About NTPC’s capacity
NTPC has a total connected capacity of 66900 MW. This group has 71 power stations including 29 renewable projects. It has a set aim of connecting 60 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy (RE) capacity by 2032. Over 17 GW of capacity, including 5 GW of renewable energy projects, are under construction.
