Once a wise person used a quote that, “the future of the country is in the hands of its youth”. And this future can be secured by the best education, culture, and in-house training by the parents or guardians. As we all are aware of the fact that India is one of the youth countries or rather the most number of youth lives in this country. With 356 million 10-24 year-olds, India has the world’s largest youth population despite having a smaller population than China, a latest UN report. So now the main question which arrives in every mind is how will India secure its future by their youth during this pandemic. Because everyone is aware of the fact that neither schools nor colleges are going to conduct physical classes because of this lethal unidentified enemy to mankind. For this, the authorities came up with a new idea and that was, “Online education”.
Mode of education delivery during the lockdown in government and private schools:
India has a lower literacy rate as compared to other top countries around this globe and upon this many parents think that education is of no use. Girls are barely given education in some states of India after 12th because of many reasons like poverty, the marriage of girls, illiteracy of parents, and being a helping hand in day-to-day work for their income. With these many established barriers in education, this pandemic is working as a catalyst in barding education. But it cannot be totally ignored that’s why schools were organizing online classes for their students.
Zoom and Google meet were two giants in this new era of education. Private schools asked the parents for their WhatsApp numbers. And with these WhatsApp numbers, the school management was creating a common group by the respective teachers of their subject. And every day a fresh or permanent link was shared by the subject teacher. Where students have to join the link and they can carry on their lectures of the day by their subject teacher and queries were also resolved in the same virtual room where classes were going on.
On the other hand government schools were previously defamed on their way of parting education and with this situation government teachers were more relaxed because students of government schools were not that much well off to afford an Android or other equipment to carry on their online classes. So to tackle this problem of online education government decided to start a new venture on their DD national channel so that student should get their education without any interruption. Doordarshan and All India Radio are broadcasting virtual classes through which students are reaching to the educational content during the lockdown and other content through their regional channels across the country on TV, radio, and YouTube.
Good and Bad phase of online education:
If we talk about online education it is beneficial in many ways because it is way different from that of traditional classes, one with blackboard, chalk, and duster. Now in this situation what we are witnessing is Teachers are having no liability of writing things on the blackboard and then explaining that to their disciples. Instead of this, they are using this opportunity as their assets and in this new era, they have an ample amount of online literature. Which they only have to present in their virtual room and they are good to go. Neither student had to take the pain of jotting down without heeding what their teacher wants them to convince on a particular topic. And in this different world of education students have no load on their back and it is really flexible for them that they don’t have to go anywhere and school comes to their place in no time which seems it to be very efficient.
On the other hand, Bad phase starts from the moment when the time comes for that notorious student who needs a cane to get trained. Like those who are habitual that one guy needs them to stand on their head and check whether they are paying heed or not. Because as we all are aware of this famous saying that every coin has two different sides and this side is just opposite because in this mode of education technology play a great role. Students are now taking advantage of this situation and manipulating teachers by joining the classes for attendance and then muting it afterwards changing the tab on their device for their enjoyment.
With a Good and Bad phase here comes an Ugly phase of online education. That is when students want to acquire knowledge but they don’t get the opportunity and means to carry on their education. As we all are aware that electricity is not available in India all the time because of either climate or any other reason. Internet is also not available in the region and if it is available then too it’s not that strong to carry on high-resolution classes for themselves.
It depends upon us to name it boon or disaster. Because for someone it is good and for others, it is bad because as per data around 11.8 crore students are set to benefit from the government’s plan to provide financial help through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) under the Mid-Day Meal scheme. And during this critical period of the unknown enemy which cannot be traced how much amount of children are deprived of their basic rights and moreover they are also hampered in their education too because many parents cannot afford pre-requisite of online education.
But on the other hand, abandoned buildings of schools are assigned as quarantine centres as well as vaccination camps. So in my opinion, online education was a mixed bag of good and bad things wherewith online education government didn’t need any extra structure for vaccination and quarantine but on the other hand, the education also got hampered by fewer means, and this liability also gets divided on government and individuals. Like irregularities in internet, electricity, and non-availability of means to carry classes and citizens on not arranging the equipment for their young once.
