Project Lion: Gujarat seeks Rs. 2,000 crores from Central Government

The Government of Gujarat has asked for the support of Rs. 2,000 crores from the Central Government for Project Lion. As per a superior government official, the demand is under current consideration for approval. Project Lion was published by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 15, 2020. It is to be displayed on Project Elephant and Project Tiger. The Chief Minister of Gujarat Vijay Rupani, while sharing in an event arranged by the State forest department to praise World Lion Day on August 10, 2021, notified in a video address that the allocation process of Rs. 2,000 crores by the Central government was initiated.

Significance:
The Chief Minister of Gujarat notified that in the following years under Project Lion, the link between lion conservation and breeding will be strengthened.

Project Lion: Gujarat seeks Rs. 2,000 crores from Central Government. The Chief Minister of Gujarat told that in the coming years under Project Lion, the link between lion conservation and breeding will be strengthened.
He also replied that the optimal application will be created of the hospitals, rescue centres, breeding centres, and laboratories. Radio collars and other advanced technology will also be used well.

Project Lion in Gujarat: Essential details
• The State Government, under Project Lion, intends at establishing a National Wildlife Disease Diagnostic Center for a proposed investment of Rs. 71 crores.

• A lion cell at the Union Ministry of environment, forest, and weather change is also envisioned for an advance of Rs. 31.65 crores under the recommended scheme.

• Gujarat Government has also brought up the responsibility of managing the health of the lions and their protection by forming a new idea of an advanced lion hospital.

• Other highlights will be lion ambulance, trackers, rescue and speedy action team, and Vanyaprani Mitras in Sasan Gir with the public participation.
